Macallan lies in the central district of whisky making territory. This distillery which was built in 1824 near the river Spey in a tranquil Speyside setting is owned by Edrington & William Grant & Sons. The distillery boasts 18 operational stills helping the distillery produce over 6,000,000 litres of whisky per year. The water used to make this whisky is taken from local bore holes.
This Macallan is matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez, Spain allowing the rich, fruity and full bodied ‘new make’ spirit to transformed into a classic single malt. Once filled, the maturing spirit remains undisturbed in the same casks for 12 years and is brought together in this rich and complex whisky characterised by spice and dried fruit and a natural rich golden colour.
